In order to practice medicine, first you need to study it. Medical students around the world do not have equal access to training opportunities, materials, and methods, and we need to close that gap. We work together with local medical professionals to create educational resources that are easily accessible and relevant to their needs.

Manual Split-Thickness Skin Graft
Author(s): Jurre van Kesteren, Matthijs Botman, Jonathan Vas Nunes
Skin grafting is a surgical procedure that involves removing skin from one area of the body and moving it, or transplanting it, to a different area of the body. This simulation demonstrates manual split-thickness skin graft harvesting using an adjustable handheld knife, with manual graft meshing, recipient site preparation and graft fixation.
Laparoscopic Sigmoidectomy
Author(s): Jurre van Kesteren, Daan Moes
Colorectal cancer is one of the world’s most commonly diagnosed cancers. Surgical treatment includes removal of the affected part of the colon and mesentery (including lymph nodes). This can be performed via a minimally invasive or open method. This simulation showcases a laparoscopic sigmoidectomy for a distal sigmoid carcinoma. Benign indications include diverticular disease or a polyp that is unresectable via endoscopy.
Bassini Technique for an Open Indirect Inguinal Hernia Repair
Author(s): Jurre van Kesteren, Amara Conteh
The Bassini technique provides a straightforward, robust and cost-effective option for limited-resource settings, as costly prostheses and laparoscopic approaches can be avoided. Ultimately, the optimal method for groin hernia repair is the use of a prosthetic reinforcing mesh. Where access to prosthetic materials is limited, the Shouldice or Bassini techniques are both effective alternatives. Yet these techniques present a challenge to the novice surgeon, as the learning curve is steep.
