A training in general and plastic surgery, led to his current position of as plastic surgery consultant at the VU University medical center Amsterdam. Henri is associate professor and head of the resident training program. He has a special interest in microsurgery with emphasis on bone reconstruction of the spine and extremities, head and neck reconstructions and breast reconstruction. Besides patient-related activities, Henri has memberships in several societies, including the NVPC as chairman of the national quality control commission and of Santé Pour Tous as chairman of the advice committee. Since 1998 Henri participated in 24 humanitarian missions to developing countries in sub-Saharan Africa and South-East Asia. Currently he is volunteer surgeon of Doctors of the World and is involved as faculty researcher on the topic of plastic surgical missions in LMICs.

Jaap Bonjer is a general surgeon and head of the department of general surgery at Amsterdam University Medical Center – Location VUmc. His main focus is on development and research regarding laparoscopic surgeries. Another focus of professor Bonjer lies in the field of education and training of general surgery residents. His vision is to shorten the trainings period from student to surgeon. In this light, he founded the SkillsLab Erasmus MC in Rotterdam and the Skills Centre for Health Sciences in Canada. The most recent Centre was opened in 2019, the Amsterdam Skills Centre for Health Sciences (hyperlink ASC). The ASC has a global mission and aims to build a next generation learning platform to generate, apply & spread the knowledge about new ways of surgical learning, training and teaching making a difference for all people, near and far, across all borders
