Doctors of the World

Doctors of the World

Doctors of the World serves more than 1.6 million people every year, through 400 programs in over 80 countries around the world. We are there in conflict zones, refugee camps and rural communities, providing care, creating infrastructure and advocating for the world’s most vulnerable people.

Whether that means defying local authorities to create a life-saving needle exchange program for drug users in France, fighting for women’s reproductive rights in Nepal or providing psychological and medical care for Syrian refugees in Turkey, we fight every day to save the lives of people living on the margins.

Amsterdam Skills Center

Amsterdam Skills Center

Building a New Way of Learning can only be done by working as a team across disciplines, across universities, across borders. The Amsterdam Skills Centre will provide some elements of the New Way of Learning: a state of the art operating theatre with 12 operating tables providing training of complex procedures on preserved human tissue, surgical robots, training on virtual reality simulators, virtual reality and video animations of interventions, a digital learning environment and conference rooms for 200 people.

The ASC is an incubator for faculty from the Amsterdam University Medical Centre, other universities in the Netherlands, in Europe and far beyond. An incubator where people and resources are connected to build a New Way of Learning. The goal of a New way of Learning for the low and middle income countries is to build a scalable, low cost and mobile learning environment which can be implemented on-site. Teach the teacher courses will be provided at the ASC with the objective that these teachers will train others on site to become teachers.

Bridge the Gap Foundation

Bridge the Gap Foundation

The Bridge the Gap Foundation is a "hare lip team". Now there are 11 professionals who form the team and are the executors of "the plan". "The plan" is simple: teach the Laotian colleagues of the "Mahosot Hospital" (the academic hospital responsible for all operations in Laos) surgery techniques to treat the huge numbers of untreated cleft lip (= schisis) patients. Help them by instructing, learning and operating. Together, ensure that as many children as possible have the opportunity to undergo surgery. Then make yourself redundant as a team over time.
