Earlier this month, one of our reporters attended the California Society of Plastic Surgeons annual meeting in Sacramento, CA, where global surgery was represented by an interesting presentation!
Meghan McCullough discussed a new surgical training program that used competency-based education in low-resource settings in collaboration with Operation Smile. The program proved to significantly increase the general technical and procedure specific competencies and 100% of trainees said they felt more confident in their skills!
This is an example of a diagonal approach as recommended by a recently published paper by Hendriks et al., which was discussed by us earlier this month.
