It is with the biggest regret that we have been informed of the death of our friend and beloved colleague in Global Health and Tropical Medicine.
Wouter was the international coordinator of the CapaCare program and directly involved in training local surgery students in Sierra Leone. This task had his full dedication and joy. We will remember him as an inspiring and caring health professional. Next to his clinical duties and management tasks, he was also involved in the set up of surgical research opportunities in Sierra Leone.

He has been of unbelievable value for the start of the surgical video simulation training study. In addition, we intended to intensify his collaboration with Global Surgery Amsterdam in the near future. That fate has struck this way, is beyond our imagination. We are all with heavy hearts and our thoughts are with the people who are closest to him. The group of Dutch doctors in Global Health is small and we almost all know each other. We sympathize with his family and wish them a lot of strength to cope with this tremendous loss. Wouter we think of you and continue with the plans that we had. This is the least we owe you. This message is on behalf of the entire board, commission of advice and all students affiliated with Global Surgery Amsterdam.
