Kris Herwig

MPH

Kris’s passion for public health stems from her commitment to social justice along with her extensive work experience with underserved populations. These experiences helped motivate her to eventually pursue her Masters in Public Health (MPH) and continue her work with immigrant and refugee populations in the United States. In her work in refugee resettlement and injury prevention, she was always looking through the public health lens to strengthen structures and institutions to lead to sustainable solutions to public health issues. When the opportunity to start working in the field of global surgery came up, Kris immediately knew it was a perfect match. “I am proud to be a part of the global surgery movement at this moment in time. Not only is it one of the most pressing global health issues, but it comes at a moment when there is also a huge shift in the paradigm of global aid. There is a real opportunity to make a difference right now – and I think GSA is at the forefront of this movement.”
