Myrthe Simon
MD, PhD Candidate
Myrthe Simon completed her medical degree at VU University in Amsterdam and is currently pursuing a PhD focused on improving acute burn care in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). Her research explores various aspects of burn treatment, including surgical interventions, education, and epidemiology, with an emphasis on making burn care more accessible in resource-limited settings.
As a faculty member at Global Surgery Amsterdam, Myrthe helps coordinate and evaluate burn care education. She is involved in organizing the Basics of Burn Care course and works on improving the accessibility of burn care knowledge through the freely available platform www.basicsofburncare.org.
With an interest in capacity building and sustainable healthcare improvements, Myrthe collaborates with local and international teams to support burn care training, research, and clinical practice. Through her PhD and teaching roles, she hopes to contribute to bridging knowledge gaps and improving burn care worldwide.
